Life is busy. Crazy busy. No matter how you spend your days, I bet only a handful of you disagree. It's so hard to get a minute to yourself, much less a minute (or several) to devote to Jesus. But, in a society that is always on-the-go and running the rat race, it's even more important to devote time every day to shutting out the world and spending time with Jesus. I know this can be hard and I have struggled with it personally. I've realized that convenience is key- whether it's working out, eating healthy, reading your Bible, or anything really- if it's convenient, you're more likely to do it. For that reason, I begin my mornings with Jesus, before any distractions take me away for the day. Recently, I've discovered 3 ways to get more Jesus in my life- and more importantly, I've stuck with it. 1. Read your Bible- Every morning, before work, before social interaction, before getting ready, with a cup of coffee in hand, I read my Bible. To be honest, I only spend about 10 minutes reading the Word, before I move onto my prayer list and thanksgiving journal (explained below). Here is how I do it: I follow the acronym R.O.P.E. R- Reveal: I read one or two chapters and write down a verse that I feel like God is revealing to me that morning. O- Observe: I write down why I think God revealed this verse to me. P- Prayer: Here's where things get a little complicated, but stay with me. An acronym within an acronym. Within my prayer, I use the acronym A.C.T.S. A- Adoration: List qualities and characteristics of our God that this specific verse brings to mind (ex: almighty, omnipresent, King of kings, the ultimate Father, etc). The purpose of this is to acknowledge how absolutely amazing and wonderful our God is. C- Confession: This your time to confess anything and everything. T- Thanksgiving: Thank the Lord for His blessings (again, anything that this verse brings to mind). S- Supplication: Now, write down whatever you want to ask God for. E- Explain: Write down what this verse taught you and how you are going to live this out in your life. Once, I am done with all my acronyms, I move onto my prayer list! 2. Keep a Prayer List- I keep an ongoing prayer list (more like a journal). Every morning, after my devotions, I pray for everything on the list. Once God has answered a prayer, I cross it out. This helps remind me of all the prayers God has answered in the past and gives me hope that He will always come through- even if it's not in my own timing. 3. A Thanksgiving Journal- This is something new I am trying thanks to a friend who planted the wonderful idea in my head. I usually do this at night, once I am able to reflect on my day. In my Thanksgiving journal, I write down one thing that I am thankful for that day, big or small. What better way to end my night than by thanking my God for His blessings and provisions? We have a good God and this is a fail-proof way to remember that. PS I found my favorite journals at Target ($8 for 3!). Aren't they so cute? There is something about journaling in a pretty notebook that makes it all that more fun.
Read, pray, and thank each day! Xoxo, Kelsey Nicole
